ECOWAS adopts Guinea, Mali and Cote d’lvoire country report
Members of Parliament (MPs) of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament have adopted the country report of Guinea, Mali and Cote d’lvoire on Friday 16th of November 2018.
The first meeting of the second ordinary session of the fourth legislature was chaired the second Deputy Speaker Kamara Aminata Epse Toungara from Cote d’lvoire.
Mr. Moussa Badiaga presented the report of Mali which touch on the political and security situation in his country and said July and August of this year there was re-election of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita for a second final term.
He further noted that the leader of the Malian delegation to ECOWAS Parliament Yaya Sangare has been made Minister of Malians Abroad and African Integration and replaced at ECOWAS Parliament, “the government is made us of thirty-two (32) members with eleven (11) being women”.
According to Moussa Badiaga his country is committed to with the support of the international community in accelerating the full inclusive implementation of the agreement, which is essential to stability in Mali and the Sahelo-Saharan region.
Guinea’s report was presented by Marie Anne Fofana on the political situation of her country she noted that her country is characterized by political crisis emanating from the challenge of the results of the February 2018 local elections.
“After a protracted disagreements both the opposition and ruling party have arrived a political consensus to end the crises with signing of a memorandum of understanding”.
She pointed out that youth unemployment; socio political crises and terrorism in the sub region are the causes of proliferation and circulation of light weapons in Guinea.
Last to present its country report is Djohore Gbakayoro Abel, of Cote d’lvoire key among the report was the trial of former President Laurent Gbagbo and his former Youth Minister Charles Ble’ Goude’, at the
International Criminal Court (ICC).
And as part of the reconciliation process, President Alassane Ouattara, granting presidential pardon on Monday 6 August 2018 to close eight hundred (800) persons convicted in the aftermath of the 2011 post election crisis.
He pointed out that it includes Simone Gbagbo the wife of the former President who is currently at a detention centre at the (ICC).
“In all the security situation remains peaceful and stable, the security index of Cote d’lvoire dropped from 1.5 in 2017 1 in 2018”, he said.
The community country report took an hour in presenting the report and another hour in discussing the report and adoption.
