Prof. Kwesi Opoku Amankwa |
The Ghana Education Service (GES) cannot operate as an examination body to conduct external examination for candidates.
This means the GES cannot conduct the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE).
The Director General of the GES,Prof. Kwesi Opoku Amankwa said this in an interview on Friday,September 13,2019 on United Television in Accra.
In his response to whether the GES cannot conduct its own exams rather than always depending on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Prof. Amankwa said the GES was not
mandated by law to conduct exams.
In addition, the GES boss said WAEC was working for the GES in that regard hence the GES was responsible for communicating to WAEC any necessity that relates to the examination.
Furthermore, he indicated, that the GES has been working collaboratively with WAEC on the Conduct of the exams.
Also, the GES boss said with regard to Assessment, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has been mandated by law.
He said NaCCA was responsible for designing a suitable curriculum for the Ghana Education Service as mandated by law.
