GES Distorts Double Track Calendar
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has misreported the date for the commencement of the second semester of the 2018/2019 academic year for students in the Green track.
In a press release dated January 4, 2019, GES stated that all Green track and form three students are expected to report on January 5, for the second semester.

Meanwhile GCNews’ noticed that GES’s own Schools Calendar for 2018/2019 academic year indicates a different reopening date for the second semester.
According to the calendar, the second semester rather starts on March 1, for the Green track students.
In a semester, students in each track are expected to stay in school for 81 teaching days.
The Green track students reported on September 8, 2018 and spent 41 days in school before embarking on vacation. They are expected to come back on January 5, 2019 to complete the remaining 40 days of the first semester. They will end the first semester with their counterpart Gold track students who reported on November 10, 2018.
The first semester will officially end on February 28, 2019, and second semester will commence on March 1.
However, for students in form three, their second semester start January 5, as stated in the press release. This is to give the students ample time to prepare for the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).
Since government adopted the double track system to cater for the increased enrolment due to deficit in infrastructure, quite a number of the citizenry, mostly parents/guardians, have expressed reservations about the system for lack of in-depth understanding of the workings of the system.
It looks like GES itself is getting confused about the calendar for the program.
