Mr Issaka Mohammed, the Sunyani Zongo Wangara community youth leader has urged Moslem youth in the country to practise the teachings of Islam religiously to guide them along the right path of life.

He said they would be well-informed about Islamic teachings, if they studied the Qur’an seriously and listened to the advice of their parents, guardians and elders.

The youth leader said out of ignorance, some of the Moslem youth were wayward and consequently involved in bad companionship including; vigilantism because “they don’t abide by the doctrines of Islam and the teachings of the holy book”.

Mr. Mohammed gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) about the role of Moslem youth in promoting national peace on Wednesday in Sunyani.

He stated that the leadership of the Islamic community in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions met and decided to support government in her effort to come out with a legislation to ban the vigilantism in the country.

Hence, Mr Mohammed stressed, “there is the urgent need for us, Moslem youth to be guided by the teachings of our religion to avoid vigilantism”.

This is because “the efforts of our leaders would be in vain if we allow ourselves to be used by politicians and other influential persons in society to achieve their selfish goals”.
