Ashgold doused Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s hope of winning the double in the Special Competition with an emphatic 3-1 victory at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

The Miners have, thus, enhanced their chances of playing in the CAF Confederation Cup competition having booked a date in the final with Nzema Kotoko who also beat Unistar Academy 2-1 at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Coach C. K. Akonnor’s men who beat arch rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak at in the semi final of the Tier 1 game at the same venue last Sunday, were favourite to win but the ‘Miner’s came with other ideas.

It was a well fought victory for the Obuasi-based side who went down as early as the second minute when Guinean import, Naby Keita turned home a Kwame Boahene’s cross from the right.

The response from Ashgold was swift when Yussif Mubarik sour to head home Ronald Amouzou’s corner kick in the 6th minute.

Emmanuel Owusu shot the ‘Miners’ in front in the 30th minute when he scored from Amouzou’s cross.

Ten minutes after recess Ashgold open a two-goal advantage following a brilliant effort by Mark Agyekum who head home after Kotoko goalkeeper, Danlad Ibrahim, had missed an aerial ball.

Ibrahim got injured in the process and could not continue which led to the introduction of substitute goalkeeper Kwame Osei.

Unfortunately, the Porcupine Warriors were outplayed in midfield as Ashgold created more chances but poor finishing eluded Ashgold from scoring more goals.
