The Bishop of the Keta Akatsi Diocese of the Catholic Church, Bishop Gabriel Kumodzi has indicated that government has sidelined the involvement of the Churches in the management of the per-tertiary institutions in the country.

The Catholic Bishop made this revelation during the 60th anniversary durbar of St Paul’s Senior High School (SPACO) in the Volta Region on Saturday, December 8,2018.

Giving his closing remarks as the chairman for the occasion,Bishop Gabriel Kumodzi,indicated that successive government do not involve the Churches in decision making concerning the schools been given to government by the churches.

He criticized government for taking decisions which were later imposed on the churches without hearing their views on some of the policies before the are being implemented.

He indicated that it has got to a stage where government takes decision which the church can nt change even if it has adverse effects on the schools management since they were always not involved at the decision making state to contribute their views.

He questioned the role of the church as a stakeholder if its views are not considered before policies are being made.

Government’s inability to sign a Partnership MoU with Churches

Bishop Gabriel Kumodzi said that government was in no partnership with churches so it was just a publicity stunt when politicians mount platforms to congratulate churches for their support in school management.

He indicated that there was a Memorandum of Understanding which was initiated about seven years ago ,which was intended to be signed by government and the Churches on the partnership of both parties in the management of the Schools.

The Bishop indicated that the Memorandum of Understanding was still pending due to the inability of successive governments to come to terms with the churches to sign the document.

He called on government to as a matter of urgency,sign the MoU to ensure the necessary relationship exists between both parties in the management of the Schools.

Neglect of Stakeholder meetings and Anniversary Durbar

Bishop Gabriel lamented on the neglect of a stakeholder meeting by the Regional,and Municipal Education Directorate of the region on Thursday,December 6,2018 prior to the anniversary durbar to discuss matters of importance in the Education of the Students.

He criticized government officials including the Minister of Education,Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh ,and the regional and Municipals education directorate of not attending the anniversary even though they were invited.
