The East Gonja Municipal Education Directorate in the Northern Region ,is alleged to have charged all Candidates of the 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) a supposed registration fee of Ghc45.00

According to reports reaching EducationGhana.net , the head teacher of one of the Schools (name withheld) charged the candidates the said amount as registration fee for the 2019 BECE.

Some parents argued that pupils were supposed to pay for passport pictures since government had announced its support for the payment of BECE registration fees for candidates in all public basic schools.

Reports indicated that the Director of the Municipal Education Directorate ,Mr Abu Baba ordered for the charge excluding passport pictures without giving any explanation to that effect.

Describing incidents of this nature in Salaga,a parent emphasized that it has been a norm in the public basic schools in the township to charge exorbitant and illegal fees.

It has been gathered that similar incident happened during last year’s registration when candidates were charged for registration fees even though government announced its support for all candidates.
